Wong Yuk-hei (Chinese: 黃旭熙; born 25 January 1999), known mononymously every bit Lucas (Korean: 루카스 ), is a Hong Kong rapper, singer and model of Thai and Chinese descent. He is a member of the S Korean male child group NCT, its Chinese sub-unit WayV and rotational sub-unit NCT U, as well every bit the supergroup SuperM. In China, he has appeared as a regular cast member of the seventh and ninth season of the popular multifariousness show Keep Running.

Early life [edit]

Lucas was born on 25 Jan 1999 in Sha Tin can, Hong Kong, to a Chinese begetter with Teochew ancestry and a Thai female parent.[1] [2] He has one younger brother and attended Tung Wah Group of Hospitals' Yow Kam Yuen College.[3]

Lucas helped run a Thai restaurant in Hong Kong owned past his parents. He often visited Thailand, at least once a year, to rest and visit his mother'southward family.[iv]

Career [edit]

2015–2017: Pre-debut activities [edit]

In late 2015, Lucas was scouted by SM Entertainment later on passing a Global Audition in Hong Kong.[five] As an SM trainee, Lucas received training in modelling before switching to idol preparations and learning singing, rapping, and dancing. On v April 2017, he was introduced as a member of SM Rookies, a pre-debut preparation team of young trainees. On 7 Apr 2017, Lucas fabricated an advent in NCT member 10's "Dream In A Dream" music video. Lucas, whose female parent natural language is Cantonese, studied Korean and Standard mandarin in preparation for his debut.

2018–2019: Debut with NCT, WayV, SuperM, and solo activities [edit]

In January 2018, SM Amusement unveiled NCT 2018, a project group for the expansive boy group NCT.[6] [7] Lucas, together with Kun and Jungwoo, were the group's newest members. The trio were introduced in SM'southward NCT 2022 Yearbook #1 on 30 Jan 2018.[8] Lucas officially made his debut with NCT on 14 March with their debut studio anthology NCT 2022 Empathy.[9] Lucas recorded three songs in the album equally part of the sub-unit NCT U, including title tracks "Boss," "Yestoday" (both as NCT U), and "Black on Black" (as NCT 2018).[x] [11] To promote the album, Lucas appeared on Korean variety shows Real Homo 300 and Law of the Jungle in Last Indian Ocean as regular cast members.

Lucas was featured on Taeyeon'south "All Night Long," a track recorded for her EP Something New, released in June 2018. The vocal peaked at number 72 on the Gaon Digital Chart.

Lucas made his rail debut at Seoul Fashion Calendar week, walking for fashion streetwear brand KYE, Charm'south, and Kappa.[12]

In Nov 2018, SM Amusement released the digital single "Java Suspension" by Jonah Nilsson and Lucas featuring Richard Bona for SM Station 3.

In December 2018, Lucas was announced to exist a part of NCT'south China-based unit of measurement WayV, managed by SM Entertainment subsidiary Characterization V. The 7-member unit officially debuted on 17 Jan 2022 with their debut single album The Vision. Its lead single "Regular" was the Mandarin version of "Regular" by NCT 127.[13] [xiv] [15] The following month, Lucas joined the cast of Chinese variety show Keep Running as a fixed cast member for its 7th season.

On 7 August 2019, Lucas was announced as a fellow member of SuperM, a K-popular male supergroup created by SM Entertainment in collaboration with Capitol Records. The group's promotions began in October, aimed at the American market place.[16] [17] SuperM'southward self-titled debut EP was released on 4 October 2022 with lead unmarried "Jopping".[18] On 5 Oct, Lucas had his first concert with SuperM at the Capitol Records Building in Los Angeles, preceding a world tour with stops in North America and planned stops in Europe and Asia.[xix] [20] [21]

2020–present: NCT 2020, Kick Back, and hiatus [edit]

In Oct 2020, Lucas returned to perform with NCT for the starting time time since "Black On Blackness" in 2018. He participated for the 2d group-wide project, NCT 2020, featuring all 23 members.[22] He participated in the anthology Resonance Pt. 1 on the songs "Make A Wish (Birthday Song)" and its English version, "Faded In My Last Song", and "Volcano" by NCT U, as well as "Nectar" past WayV.[23] He as well participated in the all-members unmarried "Resonance".[24]

On x March 2021, WayV released their third EP, Kick Dorsum, with the lead single of the same name.[25] The album became the group'south first number one album on Gaon Anthology Chart.[26]

Lucas rejoined Continue Running as a regular cast fellow member for the ninth season.

On 25 August 2021, Lucas was scheduled to release the single "Jalapeño" aslope fellow WayV member Hendery. Yet, following a controversy arising from his declared past relationships, SM Entertainment and Characterization Five announced that the release, as well every bit its promotions, had been postponed. Lucas likewise announced that he would temporarily halt his activities with WayV.[27]

In 23 Baronial 2021, a female S Korean netizen on Twitter with the username @ooooshiiim posted a thread most Wong's gaslighting during their alleged past relationship.[28] [29] [30] She claimed that they started dating around early 2022 and broke up during SuperM'south American debut in October 2019, when Wong would often inquire for expensive gifts such as jewelry, cars, and luxury hotel bookings.[31] She then claimed that the cause of their breakdown was that Wong "did not demand whatever expensive gifts anymore because he was already earning a lot of coin." She also posted screenshots of their alleged conversations, including a photo of Wong wearing one of her supposed jewelry gifts, as well as a voice message.[32]

In 24 August 2021, a female person Chinese netizen on Weibo fabricated similar allegations that Wong manipulated her into ownership expensive gifts.[28] The accuser posted supposed evidences of a receipt for a Balenciaga windbreaker, alongside a photograph of Wong wearing the same windbreaker. She also alleged that Wong has resentment towards his beau NCT members, specifically the members from WayV. On the same day, some other female Chinese netizen, this time on Twitter with the username @p_note99, claimed that her human relationship with Wong happened around the same time every bit the first accuser'due south, implying that he simultaneously dated and cheated on both.[33] [34] She also claimed that she was a fan of NCT, and provided spreadsheet, receipts, flight tickets, and hotel bookings as evidences of coming together the group several times during WayV's fansigning events.[35] [36] Wong was also defendant of sexual harassment for allegedly forcing sex, albeit unsuccessfully, during the accuser'south menstrual period where she explicitly declined.[37]

In 25 August 2021, SM Entertainment and Label V cancelled Wong and young man WayV member Hendery's single "Jalapeño," which is set for release on the same day.[38] SM Entertainment released an official statement, apologizing for causing worries due to his "personal matters."[39] The company also apologized for negligence on managing their artists. On the same mean solar day, Wong posted a handwritten apology alphabetic character on his personal Instagram account, where he apologized to his fans for his "wrong and irresponsible behavior in the past."[40] [41] [42] He also announced in the letter his hiatus and halted all of his scheduled activities. At the end of the letter, he made an apology to the members of NCT, staff of SM Entertainment, cooperative firms, and dissemination personnels. Wong has since not made any official public appearance.
